10 Of The Best Novelty Breaks
In no particular order, a collection of We Bodyboard’s favourite novelty surf spots. These breaks range from the super fun to the barely ridable.. Only the most unique need apply.
This post is proudly brought to you by our friends at PROCELLA.
The Rock – Brazil
Our first contender churns out some of the thickest pound for pound pits on the planet. A wave that has a dry rock take off zone AND a dry rock kick off section has earned it it’s distinctive name. The below video from TOOBTOOBS features Renan Crow Faccini, Nani Jackson and Joao Gabriel on a particularly chunky day.

Troll – Portugal
Troll.. a barely ridable dry slab that has been adopted by Ricardo Faustino and a few hardy locals. The chance of a successful ride on this wave is so low that only the nuttiest may apply. See Ricardo putting it all on the line below.
The Wadi Adventure Wave Park – Dubai!
This list of curiosities wouldn’t be complete without a wavepool and in our opinion Wadi is the best. Here is Hugo Pinheiro giving it a road test.
Toast – Western Australia
A super fun dredging right hand peak that rarely see’s any real size, but when it turns on it can provide amazing miniature slabs. Below Joshua Duncan and friends enjoy one of the bigger days.
Keiki Shorebreak – Oahu
What makes Keiki so unique is the seemingly pointless beatings it dishes out, it isn’t until you stop and really pay attention to the power and beauty of the wave you begin to understand why it is ridden. Below Andre Botha, Trevor Kam, Seabass Perez, Jacob VanderVelde and Iain Campbell going for it big time!!
Kahului Harbor – Maui
Kahului Harbor is possibly the funnest wave of this list.. An outside straight hander that reforms into a super punchy right bowl, what more could you ask for. This clip from Jason Hall shows the very talented local crew having a blast.
Hot Pipe – UK
Hot Pipe is without question the UK’s weirdest wave, it breaks along an underwater outfall from Shoreham Power Station through which water used to cool the turbines is pumped into the sea. The water is hot at the end of the pipe before it mixes with the cold Channel water. Adding to the dangers of this wave is a submerged “gate” on the inside section which has claimed many a patch of skin.
Kiama Bombie – New South Wales
What can be said about the K Bomb.. A barley makable mutant beast that isn’t shy of breaking in the 10ft range. This folding triple lipped freak of nature is only for certain types of chargers, the ones that live for the beating. Here is Glen Sullivan tempting his fate.
Unnamed – Tahiti
This unnamed Tahitian slab is the perfect example of a warped air bowl. Here is the SAPINUSprone crew tearing it apart.
ILOSABES – Peru
Situated in peru Ilosabes is by a long way the most dangerous wave of this list, dry doesn’t even begin to describe it as it breaks into an “island” of rock. Check it out…
