Never ending barrels at Skeleton Bay
Travis Smith travelled from New York to Namibia for a recent perfect swell, needless to say he scored, in his own words:-
“I got a call from my brother, (Koa Smith) telling me to look at the forecast that’s lining up to hit Skeleton Bay. I looked at it and was totally blown away! It was looking so perfect! I continued talking to my brother and wanted to hear what he had to say. He couldn’t stop raving about it, but unfortunately was stuck on a small island in Indonesia in the middle of filming a video project for lastnamefirst.tv. So if i wanted to go i was on my own! I talked to my friend from South Africa to get a bit more insight on the forecast and he was claiming that it was going to be perfect! So at that point i knew it was looking amazing but I was a bit nervous because I was all the way in New York City and I haven’t been in the ocean in 5 months! Also what If I traveled all the way there and it wasn’t going to be good? So I thought for a minute and decided to pull the trigger!!!!!! once I arrived after a 24 hr trip, My board bag didn’t show up. At that point I was devastated, After traveling all that way there and I didn’t have any equipment to ride or clothes to wear. I remained positive and knew I would figure it out! My friends from South Africa picked me up and we had a nice dinner, after that I borrowed some spare equipment from all of the crew. Then we all had a restless night of sleep, with butterflies in our stomachs, nervous & excited about the following day! We then woke up early in the morning and this is what I saw”
“PS… each lap is a mile long. With the rough conditions, The cold wind, the sun, walking in the deep sand, all of the elements together are very intense! It’s a marathon for surfing. I walked around 16 miles this day with little food, the day after it felt like I got hit by a truck!”
